SPECIAL Features: Set in a quiet area of the Upper Canyon and surrounded by lush pine trees, Rio Retro really is a haven. As you kick back on the covered deck or gather around the fireplace with family and friends, you’ll feel relaxed and carefree. This is what a mountain getaway is all about.

A major reason to visit Ruidoso is to revel in the glories of Mother Nature, and Rio Retro’s front deck makes it easy to do just that. Furnished with seating, wooden porch swing and a table to hold drinks and snacks, it’s an inviting place to start your morning with fresh-brewed coffee as hummingbirds greet the day. This is a wonderful place to watch the deer and elk wander by. In the evenings, alfresco dining is just as wonderful. Enjoy cocktails served fresh through the pass-through window bar rail.

The interior of Rio Retro is as retro as its setting. The living room boasts a beamed cathedral ceiling and a windowed wall that lets in plenty of sunshine and views of the verdant surroundings. The carpet feels fabulous underfoot after a day on the go, and the fireplace warms the room with a golden glow. The large sofa and seating can accommodate the whole gang. Whether you’re watching TV, surfing the web via the free high-speed Wi-Fi, or playing Pictionary, this is the room all will enjoy. There’s plenty to keep everyone entertained here at Rio Retro.

The dining table, perfectly situated so that you can admire the woods as you eat, seats six is true 1950’s style with red and chrome. The kitchen is fully equipped with its own throwback style equipped with all of the necessary appliances, cookware, tableware, and plenty of counter space and elbow room. You can cook outdoors on the cabin’s grill as well. Also, if your dream getaway means no cooking at all, rest assured that Rio Retro is only minutes from a bevy of restaurants.

The master bedroom includes a sumptuous king-size bed with a flat-screen HDTV and full-sized bathroom. Each of the other two bedrooms has a full-size bed, making Rio Retro as well suited for several couples as it is for a family. Have additional guests? The living room couch opens into a queen-size bed for two, enabling the cabin to sleep eight guests in all.

Given how much there is to do nearby, however, sleep may well be the last thing on your mind. Grindstone Lake is about a mile away, where you can canoe, kayak, paddleboard, and fish or bike and hike the surrounding trails, and play disc golf. Even closer are the Grindstone Stables, where you can go for a guided horseback ride or, in winter, a sleigh ride. If shopping and gallery hopping is your thing, you’ll love Midtown, just five minutes away by car. In less than fifteen minutes you can drive to the Links at Sierra Blanca golf course, Ruidoso Downs, the Inn of the Mountain Gods and Billy the Kid casinos, and the Hubbard Museum of the American West. Ski Apache is home to the ski slopes, mountain-bike trails, and the world’s third longest zip line, and it's only forty-five minutes away.

No matter what time of year you visit Rio Retro, you’ll love its restful ambiance, convenient location, and gorgeous surroundings. Please remember that Ruidoso is a mountain town with snow and icy conditions during the winter. This can affect driving and parking conditions regardless of the property, driveway, or roads.
